Parker's baby teeth are being very stubborn. They do not want to come out...so the permanent teeth are coming in behind. This is creating a "crowded" situation, so the dentist wants to pull 4 baby teeth to make room for the 2 bigger permanent teeth.
On the day of his appointment, I went to his school to pick him up and he was very excited because one of the teeth which had been loose for some time, was about to make its way out. He had bit into something at lunchtime and it really loosened the tooth.
I told him to try to wiggle it loose on the way to the dentist. On his third attempt, the tooth just popped out in his hand. His face was filled with instant shock and then surprise!! He was so happy to have it finally free. And I was so happy that his first tooth loss would be "natural" and I was there to see it. I hated to think of him loosing his first teeth by the dentist pulling them out.
When we arrived at the dentist office to extract the other 3 teeth, the office personnel kidded him about taking the other teeth out on his own. They were not ready however.
Parker was such a trooper!! He complained a bit about the shot pinching...but when it was over he seemed fine. He was even ready for flag football practice that night! We celebrated over Buckeye Parfaits!
Later that night, once Parker was asleep...the Tooth Fairy arrived. :)
At 4a.m., Parker awoke and came into our bedroom and said, "Mom, the tooth fairy didn't come." I knew that she had but I had to get him to figure this out. I asked if he was sure she didn't come and if the teeth were gone? He shook the container and it did not sound as if teeth were rattling inside. Then it dawned of him that the fairy may have took the teeth out and left something inside the container for him. So he opened it and took out what he thought was a one dollar bill. He said, "Oh man, its only a dollar." I said, "Well, that was hardly worth it, was it?" Then he moved closer to the window where the light was coming in from outside and he jumped with glee and said, "No! Mom! It's a ten dollar bill!!!" He was so excited to be rich!
